Vellum is an annual furniture competition hosted by Cal Poly, in which students are given the freedom to design and produce any type of furniture their creativity allows.

This Modern Chandelier was designed by myself along with two colleagues. The design was inspired by the movement of birds in the sky. The sinusoidal pattern created by the frame-by-frame images of the birds inspired us to create something unique and beautiful. Extending from the core of the piece, lay acrylic “wings” which refract from the light coming from a tube in the middle. This piece is also kinetic; weights suspend with a rod that is connected to the wings. As the weights are pulled, the hole structure moves in a sinusoidal pattern, similar to birds. The piece was an engineering feat; a lot of precision and attention to detail was required for the piece to functionsmoothly.
