The New Cornelia Mine
The site of this project was located in an abandoned mine in Ajo Arizona, which was used to mine copper in the 1900s. After its closure, it became a stagnant pit with no purpose. Abandoned mines leave big footprints that and create unwanted space. I designed a mine research facility that investigates ways to repurpose mines and use the space in environmentally friendly ways. My focus was utilizing the sun and the water at the bottom of the pit to display a projection of the caustic effect. This projection is can be seen from the lower floor by looking up to the ceiling of the first, or on the first level by look down at the floor.
